Student Volunteers dedicated to epidemic prevention and control on campus

3 31, 2022

In face of complicated epidemic situation in late March, Concord University College Fujian Normal University established four ad hoc Youth League teams, a temporary Party Branch and a temporary publicity team for pandemic prevention and control. A total of more than 500 student volunteers of these teams have worked for over 1000 hours in some 50 shifts to provide services in Hexiyuan Canteen, express service center and nucleic acid testing site.

At the entrance of express service center, a group of 3 volunteers were busy maintaining order on the spot, measuring body temperatures and making sure that everyone wore his mask properly, stood one-meter away from others and disinfected his packages. “We are working together to safeguard our campus from covid-19 virus. As the express service center is often busy and crowded, we have extended service hours and increased shifts; we have also called on students to avoid peak hours and unnecessary gathering in the venue,” said Su Ruying, a Grade 2019 student of Law, who is a leader of the volunteer team at this parcel center.

“Please find the designated exit and entrance.” “Please avoid sitting face to face.” “Please keep the division board in place.” We can hear these words as canteen volunteers were busy reminding diners to obey social distancing, apart from guiding them to queue up at an interval of one meter and conducting temperature checks at the entrance. “I see people stretch their hands out for temperature check, take away their meals in their own lunch boxes and avoid peak-time eating. I can feel each individual answer our calling and do his bit for the pandemic prevention and control——this is the meaning of volunteer service!” said Fan Peifang, a canteen volunteer and Grade 2021 student of Marketing.

At the nucleic acid testing site, ad hoc Youth League Team members, student veterans and volunteers from Youth Volunteers Associations of various departments were in charge of code-scanning, registration and order maintenance. Li Longfeng, Executive Chairman of Student Union and Grade 2019 student of Human Resource Management, worked for three consecutive days, ensuring the proper organization of volunteering work and completion of test for each student and teacher. Over 2000 nucleic acid tests to be conducted on one shift, volunteering work is very tiring, but Li said “although I have to stand for four and a half hours on one shift, which is much exhausting than having classes, I enjoy the satisfaction of helping others. I am touched and warmed at cooperation from students and volunteers.”

As Concord University College responded quickly to the new wave of epidemic, these volunteers stood out and discharged their duties with utmost dedication. They were exemplary youths and the most lovable people in our hearts.
